It’s been a while since I did a scene in the kitchen of our every day lives. I love how our dog waits patiently while the dishes are being done. You just never know when some morsel might land her way!
The night I took this photo my son was at my in-laws house recovering from being sick. The day I got home from my trip with my mom and sister, he woke up from his nap with a fever of 100. It steadily rose to 102 within the next couple of hours. He immediately went back down for another three hour long nap; his body fighting the germs. When he woke we were able to get him to take some medicine, thanks to my friend Katie. My husband had gone out and I was home with my son and he was so hot and I couldn’t find the medicine so she stopped and got us dinner and meds. The fever broke by morning but we wanted him to stay home to rest before going back to day care the next day.
At this age if one isn’t sick the other usually is. Thankfully we are getting to the point where there are bigger stretches between viruses and colds. Since my son was with his grandparents, my husband offered to pick him up. So, it was just me and my daughter until then. She really likes to help me cook so I asked her is she wanted to help prepare dinner. I need to get her a stool, until then she uses one of our dining room chairs. She loves to stand on it and help me at the kitchen counter.
When I took this photo we were just cleaning up some of the crumbs left behind from the bread that went into the oven. As you can see her idea of cleaning them is the shove them onto the floor, not use a sponge and brush them into the sink. In the lower portion of the photo just the tip of our dogs head can be seen. She was not about to miss out on an opportunity to eat up all those crumbs!
On the day I took this picture, we were getting the house ready for my sister-in-law’s visit. She was flying out for three nights to see her parents as well as us and the kids. She wanted to get a break from the cold weather and snow that hit the east coast hard this year. Unfortunately, for her, she visited us during a very cold weekend. We had temperatures well below normal during this particular weekend.
Normally, she stays with her parents at their house. We then take the kids over for visits frequently during her stay. She will often come to visit us as well. During this trip out, my in-laws happened to be out of town themselves. They were returning the day after she was arriving. So, we offered to have her stay with us. This meant cleaning up the house before she arrived.
The cleanup was not that difficult since the house has been prepped for staging for the market anyway (shameless plug for my realtors so they know we are still on top of it over here!). But, there were little things here and there that needed to be put away. I was working on the dishes from breakfast when my son decided he wanted to help me.
Well, he got into all kinds of monkey business with the dishwasher, as you can see!
This evening we did more work in the condo, getting it ready for our listing. As we get closer to March, there will be more moments like this to capture for the project. Tonight, we worked on the refrigerator. Its a new one so its in great working order. But, the water hose needed to be attached and we were missing a piece. Since we had a plumbing issue in our master bathroom this morning, we talked to the plumber about that piece. He happened to have one and gave it to us. After dinner, we worked on putting that piece on so we could attach the water hose.
We now have water working for our refrigerator and ice is currently being made. My son was really fascinated with what daddy was doing and watched through the crack in our cupboards and the fridge. It was super cute.
